164…Beautiful Lyons la Foret and Hive at Kew

by frances doherty on April 18, 2017

We’ve had a couple of really interesting weekends. First we made a trip to Kew to see the Hive installation which was great…and we managed to pick a lovely hot day to go!

Hive

Hive

From outside it looks like a swarm of bees and I can’t imagine how this meccano like construct was designed, though I suppose it must have been done by computer…figuring out where all the pieces had to go must have been a challenge.

Inside Hive

Inside Hive

Inside you look up or down through glass which can make you feel a bit wobbly. Inside there are 1000 led lights which are connected to bee hives outside, they respresent the bees communication and the vibrational changes that are happening in Kew’s hives. There is also music being played in the key of C-, which is the same key that bees buzz in.

Outside in the grounds, the Magnolias were magnificent, and I got some inspiring photos.

I can see a sculpture here and can’t wait to get started on it.

Going inside the hot houses on a hot day was challenging, but worth it just for spotting this fabulous iguana.

This weekend we had a couple of days out and about in Normandy. Driving around the chrome yellow fields of rape are almost an assault on the eyes, but the lime greens of spring and the trees of blossom make for the most spectacular landscape.

At the top of the hill there is this glorious panoramic view across the old gravel pits, you only get these colours in a country where there is plenty of rain. We also took a drive across the Lyons la Foret, a beautiful little town hidden away in a forest. The houses and gardens there are just gorgeous.

This weekend I sent all my work back to Brighton ready for the Brighton Festival and my Open House. I have some new pieces to show and I am also making a front garden sculpture trail coming up the road to my house. These are a couple of the new pieces that will be on show.
